FreeState Equality Announces First Round of 2026 Endorsements
Baltimore, MD — FreeState Equality today announced its first round of endorsements for the 2026 primary election cycle, recognizing candidates across Maryland who have demonstrated a real and consistent commitment to LGBTQ+ equality.
This cycle, FreeState Equality is introducing two formal recognition tiers: Leader in Equality and Endorsed. The Leader in Equality designation is reserved for candidates who have not just supported LGBTQ+ legislation but led on it. These are the legislators who carried bills, moved colleagues, showed up when the votes were hard, and made LGBTQ+ rights a defining part of their public service. The Endorsed designation reflects FreeState Equality's confidence in a candidate's record and their commitment to LGBTQ+ communities. Endorsed candidates have answered our questionnaire, passed our review process, and demonstrated through action that they will continue to fight for inclusive policy in Annapolis and in local government.
"FreeState Equality is proud to stand behind this first round of endorsed candidates," said Ronnie L. Taylor, Community Impact Director at FreeState Equality. "These are legislators who showed up for the LGBTQ+ community when it mattered, and in today's political climate, that kind of consistency and courage deserves to be recognized and rewarded."
An endorsement from FreeState Equality means that a candidate has proven themselves as an advocate for LGBTQ+ communities. The organization utilizes a two-tier endorsement system: LGBTQ+ Leaders, who’ve either sponsored LGBTQ-inclusive legislation previously or have led grassroots movements for equality, and Endorsed Candidates, who have exhibited a commitment to LGBTQ+ equality but have not led initiatives centered around this advocacy.
FreeState Equality’s first round of endorsements consists of only LGBTQ+ Leaders. Those endorsements were granted to:

House District 3: Kris Fair
House District 12A: Jessica Feldmark

“Endorsements are key to FreeState Equality’s first year of advocacy,” said Phillip Westry, Executive Director at FreeState Equality. "These are not only opportunities to support pro-LGBTQ+ candidates, but to give LGBTQ+ and otherwise marginalized voters information about who’s fighting for their rights in the legislature. During a time when we’re seeing a distinct lack of inclusive bills in Maryland, these endorsements will help us fight for a more inclusive state for all.”
